Woven and Quilted Trunk Show
This collection of wall hangings and garments showcases Mary Anne’s development of her signature technique.
Silk to denim, runway to everyday, they give the look of intricate patchwork, but it really isn’t! The versatility and ease of construction will surprise you.
Designing for Sacred Spaces
This PowerPoint lecture emphasizes the thought process in designing and making textiles for Worship Spaces. Examples of vestments and hangings demonstrate the relationship between architecture and the worship service as they influence textile design. Those attending are encouraged to bring photos of a worship space for discussion.
Classes
Woven and Quilted
If you love the look of intricate piecing, but need a break from matching 1/4” seams, this is the class for you. For garments or wall hangings, you’ll tear strips of fabric, weave them on a foundation and add beads, quilting or the embellishment of your choice. This is an old process often used with paper--translated into fabric, the results are spectacular.
Designing for Sacred Space
Using clues from the architecture, the season and the style of worship in the space you select, you’ll learn to identify motifs, shapes and colors that express the mood and spirit of the space. After expanding and modifying these basics, you’ll apply them to sketches
for vestments or hangings. Discussion will include appropriate fabrics, techniques, embellishments and care for the finished work.
Surface Design: Graduated Values
Learn to dye fabric in steps from light to dark and how to make neutrals by combining complementary colors in various combinations. You’ll use the basic immersion method described by Ann Johnston in her book, Color by Accident. It’s a quick and easy way to build your stash.
Surface Design: Silkscreen
Though it sounds technical, silkscreen is the perfect medium for making multiples. It’s a fun and easy way
to print traditional or innovative designs. The equipment needed is minimal and as a bonus, by exchanging prints with other class members, you’ll have enough to begin a memory quilt from the class.
